GaiaZOO wants to offer all its visitors an unforgettable and safe experience. We therefore strive to make the ZOO accessible to everyone. Did you know that there is a special rate for disabled visitors? Check out all the practical information for visitors with disabilities here, prior to your visit to GaiaZOO.
Visitors with a disability
Beautiful hilly landscape
GaiaZOO is located in the middle of a hilly landscape. Some paths can be challenging for people with reduced mobility or in wheelchairs. The Rainforest route, for example, includes some hilly sections, such as the path from the Gorillas towards the Squirrel Monkey forest. This route can optionally be taken in the opposite direction.

Wheelchair rental
A limited number of wheelchairs are available for hire at GaiaZOOs main entrance. These can be used free of charge. Booking a wheelchair in advance is not possible.
For a group visit to GaiaZOO via a healthcare institution, different rates apply. Contact our customer service via info@GaiaZOO.nl.
Mobility scooters and walkers
It is allowed to enter the park with a mobility scooter or a walker.
Restrooms
An adapted toilet for visitors with disabilities can be used in all restrooms at GaiaZOO. There is no hoist available.
Assistance dogs
You are allowed to enter the park with your assistance dog, with the exception of the following areas: the Squirrel Monkey | Forest and the various bird aviaries.
To enter the park with an assistance dog, you can come to GaiaZOO’s customer service counter and show an official document for assistance dogs.
NB: other (domestic) animals are not allowed in GaiaZOO. When leaving (domestic) animals in your car, the police will be informed.
Parking for the disabled
Special parking spaces have been reserved for visitors with disabilities in the front rows of our car park. These are located in row A. You may use these spots if you have a European Disabled Parking Card.
However, you will need a regular parking ticket.
Public transport
GaiaZOO can be reached by public transport. A travel advice from door to door can be compiled via 9292.nl. For up-to-date train departure and arrival times towards Heerlen, please visit NS.nl.
The nearest bus stop is called ‘GaiaZOO’. This bus stop is located directly opposite the entrance to GaiaZOO. Please note that you have to cross a bicycle path to enter the ZOO.
